Police considering assault charge for second guard in YouTube case

 print this
Helsinki police suspect that the second security guard present at the assault on a man being apprehended last month at a Kontula shopping precinct may also have taken part in the attack. The incident came to light when a video clip of the assault was posted on the popular YouTube site on the web (see earlier article), and the case has prompted considerable public discussion.
According to Insp. Ilkka Juola of the Itäkeskus Police, there is reason to suspect that the security guard struck the man with his baton.
The other guard, who is already under suspicion of assault, had kicked the victim - a man being apprehended for earlier attacking and kicking a woman - twice while he lay on the ground in handcuffs. Both guards have been suspended from duty by the private security firm for which they work.

The police stated that the two guards apprehended the man after reports that he had been guilty of an affray at the shopping mall.
"The man was facing the guards with his fists raised. We do not have any information as yet on whether he actually struck the guards", stated Juola.
On Thursday, police questioned both the apprehended man and the 20-year-old who took video footage of the incident with his mobile phone.
Police have said that the photographer had no other link with the incident.
