The violent crimes unit of the Helsinki Police have completed their investigation into the Smash ASEM demonstration on September 9th, held by protesters opposed to the Europe-Asia Meeting. Scuffles broke out in the centre of Helsinki.
Police announced on Tuesday morning that the case had been sent to prosecutors for their consideration.
Police suspect a total of 86 people of various crimes. The most serious include violent resistance against an official, violent rioting, and rioting.
Other charges include impeding an official in the performance of duties, insubordination, illegal use of a mask, violation of regulations on possession of potentially harmful objects, resisting a Border Guard official, and firearms violation.
Police say that more than 200 people were interviewed during the preliminary investigation. Police also studied photographs and video material of the event.
Police did not find grounds to press charges in the cases of 39 individuals.
