It has come to light that two other persons were present in the house at the time when an Oulu schoolteacher allegedly shot his wife and two children and then turned the shotgun on himself in a murder-suicide.
Police have not divulged who the persons were, or whether they might have been adults or for instance friends of the couple's underage children.
The Oulu police have stated that their taciturn response is for investigative reasons.
Equally, for obvious reasons those in the house at the time have been extremely shocked by the experience and it has not been possible to question them as yet.
"We want to be able to talk to these persons first", said Det. Insp. Kari Rantanen. "It is also a question of their own personal protection."
Rantanen did note, however, that the two visitors in the house were not threatened nor were they in danger of their lives.
A 43-year-old husband and father apparently shot his 39-year-old wife and children of 11 and 9 years at around noon on Saturday, before taking his own life.
Investigators are also exploring leads that suggest the wife may have spoken earlier about threats of violence.
At the same time police are also trying to ascertain a motive for the killings.
One theory put forward is an accumulation of debt burdens as the family sought to sell one house to move into another they had bought.
