Poll: True Finns overtaking Centre Party in Espoo
Greens closing gap with second-largest Espoo party - SDP
 |
The True Finns appear to be making significant gains in the city of Espoo, Helsinki’s neighbour to the west.
According to a poll commissioned by Helsingin Sanomat and conducted by Suomen Gallup, the True Finns, and their electoral alliance partners (a number of uncommitted candidates, as well as the For the Poor Party) are likely to win five seats on the Espoo City Council.
This would make the True Finns the fifth-largest group, ahead of the Centre Party, the Left Alliance, and the Christian Democrats.
In the outgoing council, Soini is one of three members of the “uncommitted” group.
In other respects, the poll does not predict major changes in the composition of the Espoo City Coucil. The Greens are expected to make gains.
With one member more on the council, the Greens would get ten seats, bringing them closer to the Social Democrats, which would nevertheless retain their position as the second largest group with 12 seats.
Espoo’s largest political group, the conservative National Coalition Party, would retain its 26 seats, according to the fresh poll.
