President Halonen inaugurates Finnish Consulate General in St. Petersburg
Finnish President Tarja Halonen on Wednesday inaugurated Finland’s new Consulate General in St. Petersburg.
"The building seems to be quite needed", the President said when she saw the long queue of local people in the courtyard lining up for visas to travel to Finland.
The new buliding opened its doors at a new address on Preobrazenskaya Square already at the beginning of October. The building has 7,900 square metres of floor space, and it cost EUR 18 million to build.
The new facility eases the work load of the visa section of the Consulate General, which grants more than half of all of the visas to foreigners arriving from abroad.
