Petrol prices at Finnish pumps nudged downwards marginally in February, but remained close to January’s record level nonetheless.
A litre of 95-octane unleaded gasoline cost an average of EUR 1.41 in mid-February, the Finnish Oil and Gas Federation reports. In January the price peaked at EUR 1.42 per litre.
The price of diesel, in turn, was reduced by about two cents to EUR 1.20 per litre in mid-February.
The price of light heating oil, on the other hand, rose by one cent to just under 79 cents per litre. The price rises of early 2008 were caused by the record high price for crude oil, which topped USD 100 a barrel a few days ago.

The price of gasoline is significantly lower in the United States compared with Europe, where fuel taxation is much stricter.
In January, a litre cost an average of 0.81 dollars in the United States and around EUR 1.21 in Western Europe.
