
Prices of dwellings continue to rise

The prices of dwellings continued to rise in the early summer of 2007. According to a Statistics Finland report, the national average price of houses and residential apartments in April-June 2007 was 6.3 percent higher than during the second quarter of 2006.
In the Greater Helsinki Area prices went up by 7.5 per cent from a year ago, and in the rest of Finland by five per cent.
These are the findings of the latest housing price comparison compiled by Statistics Finland. In the preliminary data, approximately two thirds of the sales of dwellings in old blocks of flats and in old terraced houses were taken into account.
The average price per square metre of residences in old apartment blocks in the capital area stood at EUR 2,971, against the national average of EUR 1,963.
The most significant increase in price relative to Q2/2006, around ten per cent, was experienced in the southern province of Tavastia Proper (Kanta-Häme). In the eastern parts of the province of Uusimaa the prices went up by 8.9 per cent.
In the large metropolitan area cities of Helsinki, Espoo, and Vantaa, the prices of dwellings in old apartment buildings rose by 8.3% 4.8% and 5.2%respectively.
