Prison guard suspected of digging up personal data of inmates
A guard at the Riihimäki prison is suspected of having dug up personal data of inmates. Esa Vesterbacka, Director-General of the Criminal Sanctions Agency, says that suspicions emerged from investigations launched by the agency and the prison itself.
The guard has been suspended from his post.
Vesterbacka says that the motive for the action remains unknown. The guard would not have had access to inmates’ health information.
The guard could face charges of violating official secrets and official duties, as well as breaking into a data system.
