Discussion has arisen in the semi-autonomous Åland Islands of the possibility for the province to go into the Central European time zone.
This would give the predominantly Swedish-speaking group of islands the same time as nearby Sweden.
Finnish time is one hour earlier than Central European time.
If Åland wants to switch over to CET, it would have to get permission from Finnish officials. Finland would then have to apply for a change in the Åland time zone.
Danne Sundman, a representative of the Åland Provincial Parliament, says that such a change would benefit Åland, because everything from the financial market to Swedish television operate on Central European time.
