Prosecutors in the case of the failed investment club WinCapita are calling for a prison sentence of more than five years for the main defendant, Hannu Kailajärvi.
According to a document acquired by the Nelonen television network, the prosecutor estimates that Kailajärvi got more than EUR 6 million from the alleged pyramid scheme. The prosecution says that more than EUR 100 million were involved in the scheme. Monetary losses are estimated at EUR 57 million.
The WinCapita case involves about 600 suspects, most of whom are suspected of aggravated fraud.
The trial in Vantaa District Court is expected to begin in February next year. The main branch of the case has only two suspects, Kailajärvi himself and his suspected female accomplice. Kailajärvi’s lawyer says that his client denies the charges.
