Prosecutor refers ruling on Matti Nykänen’s stabbing incident to Court of Appeal
The stabbing incident involving the former ski-jumping star Matti Nykänen has been referred to the Turku Court of Appeal.
Prosecutor Mika Mäkinen has announced his dissatisfaction with the decision of the Tampere District Court, whereas Nykänen himself has declared that he will abide by the court's ruling and the sentence.
On Wednesday of last week, the Tampere District Court sentenced Matti Nykänen to two years and two months in prison for aggravated assault after stabbing an acquaintance at a summer cabin in August.
In his appeal application, the Prosecutor is demanding a conviction on the more serious charge of attempted manslaughter.
