The Book Foundation of the Finnish publishing house Otava has announced that it will establish three new literary awards that are to be granted annually. Each prize is worth EUR 15,000.
The awards are the Veijo Meri Prize for ”significant achievement in fiction” (named after author Veijo Meri), the Otava Book Foundation’s Prize for Non-Fiction, and the Otava Book Foundation’s Prize for Educational Materials.
Moreover, the value of the Kaarina Helakisa Prize given for children and young adults' literature, established in 1999, will also be increased to EUR 15,000.
In addition, the Erkki Reenpää Prize for translators of foreign literature into Finnish will from now on be annual instead of biennial. The award is also worth EUR 5,000.
The prizes will be awarded in the spring of 2012.
