The Finnish Red Cross, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare (MLL) are non-governmental organisations which many Finnish young people feel are close to their own set of values.
The market research company Taloustutkimus examined the attitudes of young people toward 80 different types of organisations and associations that were considered to be familiar to young people.
In the survey of more than 1,500 residents of mainland Finland between the ages of 17 and 29, 55% said that the activities of the Finnish Red Cross were close to their values. WWF and MLL were embraced by 51% of respondents.
The anti-drug organisation Irti Huumeista and the Finnish Save the Children organisation got more than 45% support.
At the bottom of the list was the pacifist Committee of 100, with just one percent identifying with its values.
Respondents were also asked about their preferred political parties.
The Green League was found to respond best to the values of Finnish youth, getting 25% support. The Centre Party was supported by 21%, the Social Democrats by 20%, and the National Coalition Party by 19%. The Left Alliance and the True Finns both fell below 10%.
