A man who received a custodial sentence for sexual offences against children is suspected of having sexually abused dozens of young boys after his release from prison.
The Helsinki District Court placed the man in his forties under arrest yesterday, Monday, suspected of aggravated sexual abuse of a minor, among other things.
The man is also suspected of having purchased sex from a minor.
According tothe police, the victims of the man from the capital area come from various parts of the country. The youngest of them are only 12 years of age.
The man is suspected of having abused boys this year and last year. The latest suspected offence took place only a couple of weeks ago.
According to Detective Chief Inspector Ritva Elomaa, the man committed the new offences in the same way as the previous ones, for which he was sentenced to three and a half years in prison.
The previous conviction was handed down around five years ago for sexual abuse towards 11 boys.
The mansought the boys’ company via Internet chatrooms.
He met his victims either in their homes or his own.
In some cases he took boys to a hotel and paid their trips to Helsinki.
As a first-time offender, the man served half of his sentence and was released in 2008.
Recently, the Helsinki police have been looking into a couple of other cases, in which a released sexual offender is also suspected of having continued the abuse of children.
