Retretti Art Centre to stay open
New financial arrangements help avert bankruptcy
The Retretti Art Centre will continue to hold exhibitions in Punkaharju, in the southeast of Finland. Retretti has signed a contract with a company run by major investors Kai Mäkelä and Ahti Vilppula, making next summer’s exhibitions and the art centre’s continued existence possible.
"I hope that most of the exhibitions planned for next summer will take place", says Retretti CEO Anu Liivak. The main attraction of next summer will be a major exhibition of works by Marc Chagall from the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
Retretti was under threat of bankruptcy in early December last year when its main financial supporter Nordea Bank withdrew its funding.
