SUMMER RECESS
IntEd will be offline until August 1st.

As we noted yesterday, the International Edition will be in recess from today (Thursday) and for the whole of the month of July.
Today will be the last time we update the daily items before coming back online at the beginning of August.
Weeklies will return at the same time, hopefully straightaway on August 1st.
Though there can be exceptions, July is not traditionally a very "hard" news month in Finland, neither in politics nor in business life, as the country tends to go on holiday from the Midsummer or Juhannus weekend and Finland is more or less "closed" for the duration.
While the world will continue to turn, and news - "some good, mostly bad" is probably the best we can hope for - will doubtless be made, we hope that on the Finnish front at least it will be possible to enjoy the fleeting Finnish summer in peace, eat lots of strawberries, leap into lakes from cottage saunas after a gentle whipping with a birch vihta, go to the festivals large and small that dot the length and breadth of the country, and to return refreshed in late July and August.
We thank all our readers for their attention and for the feedback we have received over the year, and wish everyone a pleasant summer season.
Our rather-less-than-easy-to-search Archives of earlier stories dating back to 1999 can be found from the link below. Despite holding out hopes for years, they are still not keyword-searchable, so if you are looking for something specific and you can't find it or don't know when it was, the recommendation would be to include the search-string or keyword and "Helsingin Sanomat International Edition" in a direct search on Google. It's what we do, after all. If you are at a complete loss and desperate, contact us at the email address given in the "ABOUT" section.
