Salmonella discovered on eleven new egg farms over weekend

 print this
On Sunday, salmonella was discovered on three new poultry farms. By contrast, no further pig farms have been found carrying the bacteria. Four pig farms were added to the list on Saturday, together with one egg farm, adding to the seven that were revealed in the course of Friday.
Up to Monday morning, the so-called Salmonella Tennessee bacteria has been found on a total 23 Finnish egg-producing poultry farms and six pig farms.

In all, samples from no less than 770 layer farms and pig farms that may have received contaminated feed from Raisio Feed, the apparent source of the outbreak, will have to be examined.
Thus far just over half of the farms in question have been inspected.
Samples are yet to be collected from some of the farms. This task will be completed by the end of this week.
The analysis of the samples will take just over a week.
