Search continues for missing body parts of Malmi murder victim

Search continues for missing body parts of Malmi murder victim

The search for the missing body parts of the victim of last weekend's grisly slaying continues at the Ämmässuo dumpsite, where all household waste from Helsinki's Malmi district is brought.
The search is made easier by the fact that the murder in question only happened a few days ago. Detectives can focus their efforts on new waste from the Malmi district, which they have asked to be dumped in an isolated area of the site.
The area generates about 20 tons of household waste every day.

Two men have so far been arrested in connection with the dismemberment murder of a 36-year-old woman.
One of the arrested men is the victim's former husband. The other suspect is her more recent partner, against whom the victim had petitioned a restraining order. The second man is also the defendant in a pending assault case where the murdered woman was the victim.
The victim was afraid of both men.

In 1997 the victim's former husband was convicted of another dismemberment murder in the court of appeal and was sent to prison for nearly 12 years. He was released earlier this year after having served two thirds of his sentence.
In the earlier case half of the victim's severed body was also found in Ämmässuo.
The woman, who was killed last weekend, was first convicted by a district court of complicity to the 1996 murder. The court of appeal later overturned the ruling for lack of evidence after she had already served a year in prison.
Police have to present a case for the remand of the arrested men by Thursday.
