No sooner have we got over the excitement of last Sunday, and we are off again...
Advance voting for the second round of Finland’s presidential election commences today, Wednesday. The advance voting period for the runoff will continue until Tuesday, January 31st inside Finland, and for eligible voters living abroad, they have until the end of January 28th to go and vote at their local embassy or consulate. In all, around 4.4 million Finnish citizens are eligible to cast a vote.
The numbers of the two candidates who made it to the runoff remain the same as in the first round. Pekka Haavisto (Green League) will continue as number 2. Sauli Niinistö (Nat. Coalition Party) can be voted for by filling the ballot ticket with the number 6.
Advance voting can be done at any of the specified advance voting points. To cast a vote one has to present a photo ID.
In the capital area, the advance voting points are the same as during the first round of the election.

The actual runoff election day is February 5th, and the new President of the Republic will be formally sworn in on March 1st to serve for a term of six years.
