Selling of groceries aids department stores and hypermarkets in recording positive results
Department stores and hypermarkets increased their sales in June by nearly five percent compared with June 2008, the Finnish Grocery Trade Association statistics reveal.
The growth was primarily ensured by grocery sales, which grew by nearly 10%. The sales of clothing and household items, in turn, were reduced slightly from a year earlier.
In the first half of 2009, the department store and hypermarket net sales reached EUR 2.9 billion, which represents an increase of four per cent from the first half of 2008.
The Finnish Grocery Trade Association statistics measures the sales of the Anttila, Citymarket, Prisma, Euromarket, Sokos, Stockmann, Tokmanni, and Minimani chains.
