Seven Finns who were evacuated from war-torn Georgia were scheduled to arrive in the Estonian capital Tallinn on Tuesday. From there they will continue to Finland, the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs told the Finnish News Agency STT on Monday evening.
The consular section of the Estonian Embassy in Georgia first evacuated the Finns to the Armenian capital Yerevan. They were taken on a special flight organised by the Foreign Ministry of Estonia for its citizens.
Finland does not have its own diplomatic mission in Georgia, but the Ministry for Foreign Affairs has been in contact with both the Estonian consular section and the relatives of Finns in Estonia
The Foreign Ministry says that a couple of Finns have left Georgia on their own during the weekend. More than eight Finns have opted to stay in Georgia, including three officials of the Organisation of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
