Sharp rises in energy prices recorded
Prices of energy have risen significantly compared with last year.
Statistics Finland reports that light fuel oil was 50 per cent more expensive in March than it was a year earlier. The price of coal, which is used in the production of district heat, nearly doubled.
Prices of transport fuel in May exceeded the record prices of the summer of 2008. Household electricity rose by nearly a fifth.
The trend is attributed to higher excise taxes and rising world market prices.
