Six caught in Imatra after crossing border illegally
After a short search, a group of six people were picked up in Imatra on Monday by officers from the South-East Guard District.
The Finnish Border Guard received information on the illegal border crossing from the Russian authorities.
The six men were apprehended early on Monday morning on a road in the Jäppilänniemi district to the north-east of the centre of Imatra.
All are adult males, and their nationality is being checked. According to initial reports they were seeking better living conditions in Finland and Europe.
Illegal border crossings by groups are a relatively rare occurrence in south-eastern Finland. There have been no previous cases in the years since 2000.
