Six people suffered mainly minor injuries when the roof of a bar built of snow and ice in the form of a dome collapsed at the Ruka ski resort in Kuusamo in Northern Finland on Tuesday.
”One person had a gash on the head. In total, five people had to go to the health centre for examination”, reported fire chief Kimmo Määttä.
At the time of the accident in mid-afternoon, there were 14 people in the bar - 13 customers and one employee. The building has a maximum capacity of around 100 persons.
A large round chunk of ice and snow with a diameter of about four metres came down from the middle of the roof of the popular ski-in, ski-out Snow Bar, located on the Masto slopes at the resort.
According to Määttä, the roof was about half a metre thick and consisted of ice and snow made by a snow cannon.
Investigations have been launched into the cause of the collapse.
