
Sofi Oksanen's Puhdistus awarded 2010 Nordic Council Literature Prize
Author Sofi Oksanen has won this year's Nordic Council Literature Prize for her novel Puhdistus ("Purge").
A total of eleven writers from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands were nominated for the award this year. The prize is worth EUR 47,000.
Recent previous Finnish winners have included Kari Hotakainen, who was rewarded in 2004 for his novel Juoksuhaudantie, and Tua Forsström, a poet writing in Swedish, who was recognised in 1998 for her collection entitled Efter att ha tillbringat en natt bland hästar.
Oksanen's novel has already collected numerous literary awards, including the prestigious Finlandia Prize (2008) and the Runeberg Prize (2009).
