Minister for Foreign Affairs Alexander Stubb is to meet his U.S. counterpart Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Washington next Monday.
The agenda for the discussions will include bilateral issues, transatlantic questions, the situation in the Middle East, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkey, and Russia, as well as matters concerning climate change.
Stubb and Clinton have met before in the context of international summits and conferences, for example the NATO-EU foreign ministers' meeting in March.
In the course of his two-day trip to the U.S. capital, Stubb will also have meetings with representatives of the Barack Obama administration, Congress, and various research institutes.
The visit will also include an invite-only occasion to celebrate the 90-year history of diplomatic relations between Finland and the USA.
The United States formally recognised Finland as an independent republic on May 7th 1919, one day after the United Kingdom, following the first parliamentary elections to the new state.
