According to a recent survey conducted by the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE, a subscription newspaper continues to be the most important individual source of news in Finland.

”A newspaper” was the most common reply to the question about the source of news the respondent prefers to read most regularly, says Research Manager Erja Ruohomaa from YLE.

YLE’s late television news broadcast came second, while the Ten O’Clock News of the commercial television network MTV3 was ranked third.
As for reliability, the respondents ranked the YLE television news the best, while the MTV3 news broadcast was regarded as slightly less reliable.

On the other hand, MTV3 got a somewhat higher score than did the news sections of newspapers. The names of individual newspapers were not given in the responses.
Among reply alternatives the main stress was on the electronic media.
A total of 1,055 respondents were interviewed for the survey by TNS Gallup in the period from October through November 2008.
