Töölö Travel Agency, one of Finland's largest travel agencies, unexpectedly filed for bankruptcy on Tuesday. The company says that an internal audit has revealed considerable malfeasance, and that the company's own capital reserves are insufficient to maintain operations.
According to the audit, at least ten million euros are missing from the company's EUR 17 million balance.
The company also asked the police to investigate the case. Helsingin Sanomat has learned that two people in the company are suspected of having embezzled the money.
Managing Director Juha Kumara says that the cooking of the books has been going on for several years.
He also said that the company decided to file for bankruptcy on its own accord, and not because of demands from any creditors.
All those with reservations made through the Töölö Travel Agency are urged to contact the company as soon as possible.
