The Swedish People’s Party (RKP) completed their weekend congress on Sunday. In contrast to the National Coalition Party, they re-elected their party chair Jan-Erik Enestam as well as the three vice-chairmen Ann-Mari Audas-Willman, Christina Gestrin and Jan D. Oker-Blom unanimously, as no new candidates were put forward.
According to Jan-Erik Enestam, the current European Parliament elections as well as the upcoming municipal elections in October present some of the major challenges for the party.

According to the statement by the RKP, before entering the European Union, new applicant countries should first become members of the European Economic Area (EEA), which would give more time to plan the expansion of the EU.
The agenda included also the presentation of the party’s candidates for the European Parliament elections, as well as a number of initiatives including social, education, and language policies.
The initiative by the Swedish People’s Party youth organisation to appoint Astrid Thors the party’s candidate for the post of an EU commissioner was approved without debate.
The initiatives also included calls for bringing down the limit for aggravated drunken driving from 1.2 ‰ to 1.0 ‰, as well as a new model for the working week. Accoring to this so called 3+3 model, a working week would be divided so that each period of three working days would be followed by three free days. After a debate, the new model was approved by the party congress, and the next step will be to test the model in practice.
