A recent survey commissioned by the late edition tabloid Iltalehti indicates that Finland’s Prime Minister and Centre Party leader Mari Kiviniemi and Minister of Finance and National Coalition Party leader Jyrki Katainen are the Finns’ top two favourites to be the country’s next prime minister.
The poll asked respondents who would make the best prime minister for the next government. A total of 28 per cent of respondents replied that Katainen would be the best candidate, while 21 per cent of respondents supported Kiviniemi.
The backing for Social Democratic Party leader Jutta Urpilainen remained at 6 per cent.
However, as many as 36 per cent of the respondents were unable to name their favourite candidate.
The market research company Taloustutkimus interviewed a total of 963 people for the survey last week. The margin of error was calculated at about 3.0 percentage points.
Finland’s next parliamentary elections will be held on Sunday April 17th 2011.
Advance postal voting for those eligible in Finland and abroad begins just over a week before the actual election day.
