TeliaSonera to dismiss no more than 330 people
Personnel Director: Number of layoffs may be reduced by a further 100-200
 |
Telecommunications service provider TeliaSonera is to lay off no more
than 330 people this year. Recent negotiations between the management
and employees have lead to a significantly less dramatic figure than the
650 redundancies originally announced for 2005.
Even the latest figure might still fall considerably once those about to
lose their jobs start seeking transfers into other tasks within the group.
There are currently 207 jobs available through the company's internal
job application process, and later in the year another 250 vacancies may
well become available.
"In principle, those at risk of losing their jobs will have first option
to the new openings", says Personnel Director Juha Pentti
of TeliaSonera Finland. "In the course of the spring, the number of
actual layoffs will almost certainly be reduced by another 100 to 200
people."
Of the announced redundancies, 200 will take place
in the Helsinki area. In Turku, 50 employees are about to lose their
jobs. The corresponding figures for Jyväskylä, Kuopio, Tampere, and
Oulu, are 15, 15, 15, and 10 respectively.
The job cuts will fall somewhat evenly throughout all levels of the
different sectors within the group. However, there will be no cutbacks
to the telephone services provided for businesses and private clients.
TeliaSonera Finland's employer/employee negotiations commenced in the
middle of February and ended on Monday.
