The International Pori Jazz Festival this July offers an interesting line-up, with the headlining acts being two Welsh singers, albeit from very different eras.
Tom Jones, the 68-year-old crooner who has sold over 100 million records since 1965 and was awarded a knighthood in the 2006 New Year Honours, will be performing in the Kirjurinluoto Arena on Saturday July 18th.
Two days earlier, the headline act at the same venue will be Duffy, whose debut album Rockferry (2008) has sold over 5.5 million copies worldwide. Duffy was a recent Grammy-winner, and also swept up several trophies at the Brit Awards in February. Her arrival in Pori this year was reported here earlier (see linked article).
Further Pori Jazz performers will include the U.S. soul artists Randy Crawford and Erykah Badu, as well as Booker T. Jones, a US multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, who is bringing his new band.
Jones, 64, is probably best known as the frontman of the seminal Booker T and the MGs, and was awarded a Grammy for lifetime achievement in 2007.
The 44th International Pori Jazz Festival will be celebrated in the City of Pori from July 11th to July 19th.
The programme will comprise some 120 concerts at more than ten different venues.
