Toy gun causes alarm in Kirkkonummi

 print this
A toy gun that was to be used in a school play caused alarm in Kirkkonummi on Wednesday.

The Espoo Police Department received several calls on Wednesday afternoon of a young man who had been seen handling a gun in the immediate vicinity of the Porkkala Upper Secondary School and the Kirkkoharju school.
The police department sent several patrols of officers to the scene, who were prompt in cordoning off the school complex, while pupils and teachers were advised to stay in classrooms behind locked doors.

It turned out fairly soon that the weapon was just a toy gun that was supposed to be used in a play to be performed by the students of the upper secondary school.
Headmaster Markku Multanen of the Porkkala Upper Secondary School reports that the Wild West hero of the play had needed a gun, and one of the other students had volunteered to fetch one from home.

The misunderstanding caused a lot of confusion among the pupils, and some parents came to pick up their children immediately after hearing of the incident.
