A loss of confidence among parishioners has caused the transgender Imatra vicar Marja-Sisko Aalto to leave her position.
Aalto said on Tuesday that she would be resigning at the beginning of April.
Aalto, who as Olli Aalto announced in November 2008 that he would be changing sex from a man to a woman, was in office in Imatra for only a few months as a woman.
She said that she had not managed to create a sufficient contact and level of confidence with the members of the parish to continue in office.
Aalto is the first minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church to have undergone a sex-change.
The Bishop of Mikkeli Seppo Häkkinen stressed on Tuesday that the decision to resign was Aalto's alone, but said that after having discussed the matter with Aalto it had not come as any great surprise.
Many did support Aalto's return - the vicar was away from the parish for around a year for the duration of the sex-change operations - but then again as was reported in January of this year some 600 people resigned from the church in Imatra last year.
This was roughly four times the normal annual figure. Some members of the parish council had called for a petition to prevent Aalto's return and many refused to attend parish council meetings.
Aalto had also received anonymous threats.
Under Finnish law there is nothing to prevent a person returning to work after undergoing a change of gender.
