Tuition fees for foreign students to be examined by ministerial committee

 print this
Proposals for tuition fees to be paid by foreign students who come to study in Finnish universities from outside the EU and EEA countries are to be drafted by the end of August.
The Ministry of Education has set up a committee to study such tuition fees. Director General Arvo Jäppinen of the ministry will be chairing the committee.
Currently, tuition at the university level in Finland is free for all students who have been enrolled in a programme leading to a degree.

The committee is to study other countries' tuition fee procedures and to debate the pros and cons of such charges.
Other issues that have to be considered include potential post-graduate education as well as special questions related to the admissions of foreign students.
