Nokia announced the appointment of two new members to is Executive Board on Friday - Kai Öistämö, 40, who will head the Mobile Phones Business Group, and Robert Andersson, 44, who will head the Customer and Market Operations unit.
The appointments bring down the average age of the board by approximately two years to about 47. The two will replace Yrjö Neuvo, Senior Vice President and Technology Adviser, who retires at the end of the year at the age of 62, and Pekka Ala-Pietilä, who is leaving Nokia.
The appointments did not come as a surprise to Nokia insiders, nor did they lead to speculation among analysts.
Kai Öistämö will replace the current head of the mobile phones unit, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, who is to become President and COO of Nokia from the beginning of October.
Öistämö, who started at Nokia in 1991, is currently in the Mobile Phones Business Group, heading the Business Line Management unit. In this task he has been responsible for the company’s GSM products and their development worldwide.

Previously Öistämö has held a number of managerial positions in the Mobile Phones Group. He has been responsible for Nokia marketing in France and Germany, and has worked with technological solutions in the United States.
Born in Turku, Öistämö received his doctorate in Tampere, writing his thesis on digital processing of signals.
Robert Andersson, who replaces Ala-Pietilä on the Executive Board, is to head the Customer and Market Operations Group. In his position he will also be responsible for factories and logistics. So far, he has been responsible for operations in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and before that, Asia.
Andersson is a graduate of Helsinki’s Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration.
