
US sets up defence cooperation office in Helsinki
Liaison office opened in Helsinki
A liaison office for defence materiel established by the United States Department of Defence began operations in Helsinki on Monday.
The office operates under the authority of US Ambassador Barbara Barret, but is located in premises of the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
The purpose of the new office is to promote and administer defence materiel trade between Finland the United States, such as equipment for upgrades for the F-18 fighter jets used by the Finnish Air Force.
The office will also serve as a contact point for Finnish companies wanting to sell their products on the US market.
The US has similar offices in 34 countries around Europe.
