Up to 100 brides and bridegrooms could tie the knot at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Lawrence in Vantaa tonight, if the occasion planned by pastor Heikki Leppä can galvanise into action those engaged to be married.
It has not been necessary, nor even possible, to make a reservation for a wedding on the special night.
The couples are just expected to arrive at the church in the evening, whereupon they will be given a wedding time in order of their arrival.
The engaged couples have had to obtain a so-called certificate of non-impediment one week prior to the occasion at the latest.
The splicing of eligible couples will start at 7 p.m., and depending on the number of people getting married, the "wedathon" event is to continue until four o’clock in the morning.
The families and friends of the bridal couples as well as other people interested in the ceremony are welcome to the church.
Pastor Leppä says that a large number of engaged couples have expresssed interest in the occasion.
