The Uusikaupunki car factory of Valmet Automotive will halt its production for four weeks in May-June. The rotating temporary lay-offs of the production personnel that commenced at the beginning of March are also set to continue until August.
The stoppage and the rotating lay-offs will affect a total of 530 workers and around 70 office staff.
The plant in Uusikaupunki, established in 1968, was for many years a manufacturer of Saab cars. The last Saab rolled off the production line in April 2003.
Since then, the factory has been building Porsche Boxster roadsters and Cayman sports cars, and Valmet Automotive and the American company Fisker Automotive have signed a cooperation agreement to manufacture Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid vehicles in Finland, starting from the end of this year.
