Pastor Mitro Repo, 50, a resident of Helsinki’s district of Kruununhaka, is the most renowned Orthodox priest in Finland. He has been serving as a pastor to the Orthodox congregation of Helsinki since 1990.
Apart from his clerical duties, Father Mitro teaches, lectures, and writes. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Repo is a familiar figure both on TV and in the print media: he has appeared as a guest in Uutisvuoto, the Finnish version of the British television quiz show Have I Got News For You, and has performed in Runoraati, a show in which a panel of guests rates poems sent by amateur poets. In addition, he has been a guest on G-piste (”The G-spot”), an adult talk show on television discussing sex and relationships. Last year Father Mitro also came up with an idea for an Easter commemorative postage stamp.
As an Orthodox pastor, Father Mitro has blessed cars and winter swimming holes, as well as restaurants.
In 2006, Mitro was appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador by the Finnish Central Association for Mental Health. He is also one of the spokespersons for a programme launched by the government for promoting Finnish food.
As the most important person in his life, Repo has chosen himself.
