Born: 27th March, 1981, Varkaus.
     
Student of economics at Joensuu University, though admits his studies are on ice for the present.
     
Engaged to Elina Kivihalme.
     
2006 European Champion at 3000 metres steeplechase.
     
Personal Best: 8:16.74, from 2006.
     
Several Finnish championship titles at 1500m, 3000m (indoors), 3000m steeplechase, and in the short cross-country event, most recently in 2007.
     
Lives in Joensuu, but trained abroad for most of last winter.
     
Hobbies include hunting and fishing.
     
Was voted Sports Personality of the Year in 2006 by a crushing margin.
