Websites of two Finnish politicians hijacked; old URLs lead to porn site

 print this
Hackers have succeeded in hijacking the previously used URLs of two Finnish politicians.
Centre Party MP Jukka Vihriälä and Helsinki Deputy Mayor Pekka Sauri (Green) recently gave up their old URLs. Now web surfers who type in the old addresses get a web site containing hard-core pornography.

Vihriälä decided soon after the 2003 Parliamentary elections to give up his personal website with a .net domain suffix, and to make do with the pages allocated to him on the Parliament’s own web site.
Vihriälä’s old URL has since been registered by a Ukrainian company with apparently questionable motives.
"The address could be bought back by taking part in an Internet auction. Participation requires giving one’s own credit card number. Naturally we did not fall for this", says Vihriälä’s assistant, Sami Sulkko.
The situation is made awkward by the fact that the old address may still be on a number of lists of links, which means that new visitors can inadvertently end up on the raunchy new pages.
