Finns have taken to wireless Internet connection in a big way this year. According to a report by the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA), there were more than 300,000 broadband connections in Finland operating on a USB modem in June this year.
This is twice as many as there were at the end of 2007. During six months, the total number of all different types of broadband subscriptions grew by nine per cent in Finland.
The market leader in broadband subscriptions is the telecommunications operator Elisa with a 34 per cent share. Second is TeliaSonera with 29 per cent and third is DNA with 14 per cent.
In mobile telephone subscriptions, TeliaSonera remains number one, with Elisa following close behind.
The number of subscriptions grew during the first half of this year by six per cent from the end of last year, to 6.4 million. Mobile phones were used to place about 2.5 billion calls in the January-June period this year.
