Aino-Kaisa Saarinen and Virpi Kuitunen brought back Finland's third medal at the Torino Winter Olympics this morning, by taking bronze in the ladies' team sprint event in the cross-country skiing at Pragelato.
In a thrilling climax over the last leg, Kuitunen could not hold off the challenge from the Canadian and Swedish representatives. Sweden's pairing of Lina Andersson and Anna Dahlberg took the gold, and Canada were close up in second.
The sprint team event is a new addition to the Olympic assortment, and was first on the programme at the World Championships in Oberstdorf last year.
The women's event features six circuits of a 1.145 km track, and each of the two members skis the route three times.
