Young girl’s parents apologise for Varkaus baby kidnapping

 print this
The parents of a 12-year-old girl who kidnapped a baby boy in the eastern city of Varkaus on Monday last week have asked the police to convey their apologies for the incident.
The girl’s parents are very sorry about what their daughter did.

The young girl took a three-month-old baby from his pram where he was sleeping outside a family friend’s home in the residential area of Kuoppakangas on Monday.
She carried the boy in her arms for a while and then hid him under a 20-centimetre layer of snow.

Around three hours later, a crime scene investigator heard a baby’s whimpering from under the snow and dug the child out less than ten metres away from the pram.
The infant made a full recovery, despite being left in sub-zero conditions.
According to the 12-year-old girl, she did not know the baby or his family.
