This artist's impression shows how the East Stand roofing should look when it is completed. The covering of the stand on the back straight was apparently one condition of the granting of the 2005 Athletics World Championships. The plans caused some dispute at the time, partly because the Stadium - originally built in the 1930s - is a listed building, and also because the cash-strapped City of Helsinki could ill afford the costs.
