Immigrants at the Monika multicultural centre in Kajaani, a city that has been much in the news of late as a focus of racial violence. Kajaani, and surrounding areas of Kainuu, suffers from high unemployment, internal migration outwards to other parts of Finland, and a fair number of young disaffected Finnish residents with time on their hands. The arrival of around 500 immigrants in the past five years has not gone without some conflict. Alcohol and ignorance have not helped the situation.
