Manninen (left) and Sampsa Lajunen took a 1-2 victory at the World Junior Championships in St. Moritz in 1998. Manninen was seen as the great hope for Finnish Nordic Combined at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, but it was Lajunen who broke the bank, with three gold medals.
