Electoral participation in Finland is heading south steadily. The chart presents four forecasts for voting percentages in parliamentary elections over the period from 2011 to 2035. Violet = optimistic 1, dark blue = optimistic 2, blue = pessimistic 1, light blue = pessimistic 2. Researcher Sami Borg’s calculations are based on the changes in demographic structure and in the so-called life-cycle effect. In municipal elections voting activity is some 10 % lower than in parliamentary elections.
