Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez thanks Sami Hyypiä for a job well done. Benitez, who clearly has an odd sense of dramaturgy, would have wanted to save Hyypiä's entrance until the very last minute, but was obliged to bring forward his plans by a baying crowd who wanted to show their appreciation one more time. For his own part, Hyypiä said he would have been more than happy to start the game - one of the reasons for his departure is a desire to get more regular first-team football than he has enjoyed of late.
